May 1, 2008

(Nathan) Well I got up this morning around 4 AM for my last day shift of the week and thought that the bedroom was a bit light for 4 AM, and I hadn't turned any of the lights on. I then realized that the light was coming from outside, and when I peeked outside, saw SNOW! The ground was covered, and the light was all the orange ambient glow reflecting off the clouds and snow. It was slushy, but covered the ground. As I look out the window next to my computer here at 8PM, you can see just pieces of ground outside where the sun didn't melt it off today, but it's supposed to be freezing tonight between 2AM and 10AM in the morning. Isn't May supposed to be spring? As I pulled into the K-Mart parking lot to go catch the bus to work, I had trouble parking because I was actually sliding around in the slush/snow. By the time I got on the bus, one side of my face was frozen from snow and wind! Sheesh! And to think the last post I was talking about the nice weather and walking through the zoo with my wife!
Anyways, Mary has still been doing OK with the pregnancy stuff this week, but yesterday and today I've had to fight off some pain myself. Tuesday night, Mary and I were in bed, lights out, and going to sleep. Mary was almost asleep apparently when I swear I felt something brush my face. The best way I can describe it was like a birds wings flapping so close to my face for just a second that the feathers were brushing my whole face. I turned on the lights with our "Lamp Commander" (a voice activated plug for our lamps) and sat up. Mary was wondering what I was doing, and I was puzzled since I couldn't see anything that would have got my face. But the bad part, is I apparently did something to my left shoulder as I sat up so abruptly. I was rubbing it, as I had felt a dull, yet intense pain in it. For the last 2 days I've dealt with a very sore shoulder, and am not even sure what I did to it exactly. It made a morning of work involving some heavy lifting very interesting to say the least.
In regards to Mary's pregnancy, she's had a few more signs that there's something in her tummy. She says recently that she felt the baby move, which I found odd at only 10-11 weeks, but she says it was definite enough that she figures it wasn't something else. She also has had cravings. Apple pie, a Taco Bell Chicken Grilled Stuft Burrito, and multiple bowls of cold cereal in the evening (she'll get herself one, and then when all that is left is the milk, she asks me to get the cereal again so she can have another bowl with the same milk). I'm excited for May 21, where we get to go to her second OBGYN appointment, meet with the doctor for the first time, and we should be able to hear the baby's heartbeat at that point. It will be interesting when we finally bring the baby home later this year. Our home teachers came last night, Brother Allgood and Brother Sistrunk. Brother Allgood and his wife recently had a baby boy, about 2 months ago. It was great to see in their lives because they had a son that died in just the last few years, before he was even 5 years old. But their new son came along with him to our place when they came for home teaching, because his wife was busy. Spencer (our orange cat, see the picture on the sidebar) was very interested in what this was, and was constantly smelling him up close. Sirius (our black cat) was curious also, but seemed to freak out when the baby started waking up and making some noises towards the end of the visit. I hope that things won't be too traumatic for them when our baby shows up late this year!
Anyways, Mary has been accusing me of having these posts turn into novels, so I'll end here. I wish I had some more pictures to add, but there really hasn't been a lot to take pictures of, and Mary is fairly particular of when I can take pictures of her, especially being pregnant. I still think she looks absolutely gorgeous whenever, but I guess I am somewhat biased. Right? So I'll trust her judgment and try to get some pictures up here soon! I hope all of you are enjoying life, and we'll see you next post!
