April 26, 2008

(Nathan) Well, it's time to add a much needed update to the blog. Both Mary and I have been pretty busy over the last few weeks. Mary has had a fun time trying to keep down lunch and I've been busy with work and helping her. Let me see if I can sum up the medical visits we've had in the last few weeks. I know I've mentioned a couple of these at least in the previous entry. Let's see. There was Portneuf Convenient Care on Thursday, April 3rd, then the ER for dehydration on the night of April 8th to April 9th where I had to come back home from work after having just got out there. We made another trip to the ER on Monday, April 14th because Mary had thrown up and had blood in it. Thankfully, it was a Mallory Weiss tear, meaning she had been throwing up so much that it wore down her esophagus to the point where it bled a little and it came up with the rest of the contents of her stomach. They did give her another IV with one more liter bag of the 0.9% sodium chloride liquid for some mild dehydration. This week we went to Physicians Immediate Care on Monday evening, the 21st, where they said her urinalysis had some indications there might be an infection, and then Mary had her first OBGYN appointment (just with the nurse) Wednesday morning. They said that she was the single worst case of morning sickness they had seen in the office. But we did find out that the sickness is a good sign, it means the hormone levels are so high that it makes her sick, but also means that the pregnancy is sticking around, so the chances of her miscarrying are a lot less than they were before. They did give us a lot of advice and tips, and even a "gift" bag of sorts. We go back for her first appointment with Dr. Jones on May 21st. Thursday we called back to Physicians Immediate Care to find out about the results of the lab work on Mary's urine sample, only to find out they had a mixup and needed a new urine sample. Mary was feeling pretty icky anyways, so we went in and they checked her out again. It sounds like she's had a UTI on top of morning sickness, so they prescribed an antibiotic. So she now has 4 different prescriptions that are anti-nausea medications, an anti-biotic, she has to take B complex pills, Pre-Natal vitamins or Flinstones vitamins, the OBGYN nurse suggested calcium supplements, also half a Unisom at night, at least one other prescription pill from before the pregnancy, sheesh! My home teaching companion is in the Pharmacy program at ISU and works off and on at the pharmacy in Walgreens by the mall that we usually get prescriptions for. We've run into him a time or two there. Apparently the news is getting around in our ward, because Thursday night after I had gone to work, he called from Walgreens and asked if Mary wanted him to bring her prescription over for the antibiotics. They just live across the street, but Mary wasn't feeling like visitors and she had told me to just get the prescription after I got off the bus in the morning before I came home from work, so she told him thanks but we had it taken care of. Mary has been feeling better the last day or two, and the cravings are on their way. She wanted to go out to eat last night, so we went and ate at Chili's, and then she was craving apple pie, and thankfully my parents were out this end of town at Wal-Mart, so we were able to have them pick up a Dutch Apple Pie that we'll probably cook tonight. We're still waiting for spring to show up, just in the last week or two, Mary's sister, Rebecca, who lives with her husband and three girls in Rigby, got 5-6 inches of snow in an afternoon! And I believe this week that Island Park got 8.5 inches! It was very windy yesterday, to the point that it looked like Los Angeles or New York smoggy in the valley, due to blowing dust. Today, the winds have died off and it is actually looking rather nice (Still cold for Jeremy and Marie probably! You Phoenix-blooded family! :) Maybe 50s to 60s, and sunny. In fact, I'm sitting next to a wide open window as I'm typing this, and it feels nice. A touch cool, but overall, pretty nice. I'm hopefully going to send an email to a bunch of family to let them know that we're expecting, and about this blog, so some of you may know already about the Idaho weather. But we're still plugging along. Maybe today I can get some shelving done to help facilitate moving things around for when the baby gets here! By the way, if you haven't already, don't forget to vote in our poll, what do you think we're going to have, girl, or boy? Hope everything is going well for all, and we'll see you next post!
