August 13, 2008

[Nathan] OK, we've been slackers. Yes, we haven't updated our blog in a while. So here goes. First and update on our little girl that's on the way. For those of you that haven't heard, shortly after we had the ultrasound, we had an appointment with the OB. He told us that they had seen a cyst on our baby in the ultrasound, which surprised me quite a bit because it seemed everything they looked at in that first ultrasound, they would say, "OK, now we're going to look at this... ...it looks good, that's what we're supposed to see." We at first weren't sure if the cyst was on her outside, or on internal organs or stuff. We set up an appoinment with a Dr. Michael Varner, a perinatologist (spelling?) from the University of Utah who comes up to the Pocatello Womens Health Clinic about once a month. At that appointment, they did another ultrasound, and he gave us some more information. Our daughter has what is called "cystic adenometoid malformation of the lung." It is a cyst, or fluid filled sac in her lower right lung, currently not more than a centimeter or so big. Dr. Varner said that if he was a betting man, he would bet that either the cyst would shrink and disappear/go away before she is born, or that she would be born with it and live a normal, healthy life with it and not have any problems. So that is what the odds are pointing to, but there is a chance if it was to grow or cause other problems, that we could be looking at maybe having her born in Salt Lake or Denver where there are specialists immediately available. We did get some good news yesterday, (Aug 12) when we went in for the 3d/4d ultrasound, they started with the standard 2d ultrasound, and the cyst hasn't grown, it is apparently about the same size (we don't have exact numbers, but they did take a measurement and it was about the same size as we remember). So while it still is there, it hasn't apparently grown. In fact, Mary and I first thought it had shrunk, but it was because that our daughter was bigger but the cyst wasn't. We got the 3d/4d ultrasound on DVD and pictures on CD so we'll try and add some of that here. I'll add more later, and I've been talking to Mary while I have been typing this trying to convince her to type some of her own on here, so hopefully she'll make her first entry. But I've got to get ready for work, I leave for my shift in about 30 minutes, so hopefully this update will work for a little bit of info. Hope everything is going well for everyone and we'll see you again shortly (I hope! Harrass me and make sure I do!).

One of the better 3d shots. She seemed to want to move a lot and keep her hands up in front of her face!

Little feet! :)
